Inspired By...Women in Suits

Graduation outfit inspiration

This memorial day weekend I'll be attending my cousin's graduation in Rhode Island. I leave in two days and I have not picked out what I will be wearing for the three days that I will be there. I have thought about what I would like to wear though, which I think is a pretty good first step. I really want to wear a suit. A nice fitted suit with an interesting print. Now since I can't just have a tailor whip something up for me in the next 24hours nor can I just order something online to be delivered by tomorrow. I may just hit up the thrift store in hopes of finding SOMETHING. I've really been inspired by women in suits. I was watching "Rent" yesterday and when I noticed Tracie Thoms' suits, I just wanted to have unlimited cash to drop on some swanky fitted three-piece suits. With black wedges of course. I'll probably search my closet and piece one of my fitted printed pants with a jacket I'll most likely buy from the thrift store.

Wish me luck!

Inspired by...The Good Wife

This past week I've been back home in Pennsylvania for the summer. I spent my first week at home doing absolutely nothing and of course, like any other college student, I caught up with my shows. One of the shows I caught up on was "The Good Wife" which was in it's fourth season. Watching "The Good Wife" I noticed that the style on the show this season was on point. I don't know if the style on the show has always been this modern and extravagant(I highly doubt it) but it is now all of that and noticeable. One character who's style has taken a turn for the better is the style of the main character Alicia Florrick (played by Julianna Maruglies). Her office style has gone from the boring cookie cutter skirt suit to pieces that have intricate cuts and designs. Maybe it's because Alicia Florrick has done a complete 180 and has become a more self-assured, confident, and thus sexy woman. It's only appropriate that her outfits fit her character. I mean do you see that black dress by Antonio Berardi?! Once I saw that dress with the neckline and the way it fit, I knew I had to make a style post about it. It's so inspiring because I've never been swayed by the thought of wearing office clothes. I really didn't think there was much leeway for creativity when it came to the outfits one could wear in the office. "The Good Wife" has proven me wrong on that and I actually anticipate the outfits I will wear once I enter the professional world. The thought of the (now) many style opportunities--all the cuts, designs, sexiness--is quite exciting. Perhaps I'll get an early start with my internship this fall.

Photography by...Rog Walker

Rog Walker's photography has a certain intensity to it. I can only compare it to the feeling of when someone who you take seriously tells you they need to have a talk with you. You go in feeling like your stomach is crawling up your throat and then when you finally hear what they have to say...it's great news. It's the greatest piece of news you've gotten in a while. You feel elated yet still sober. That's the intensity Rog Walker's photography makes me feel. His photos are also a good source of style inspiration. Some of the subject Rog captures in these photos are: Joshua and Travis of Street Etiquette, his wife-Bee Walker, and musician Jesse Boykins III.

I was walking towards the Foggy Bottom metro when I saw Giordano. At first I was drawn to his elegant vintage-looking scarf. It was such a refreshing sight on that cloudy Sunday. When I walked up to him to introduce myself I noticed his awesome boots (as you will soon learn I am a shoe fanatic). They looked perfectly worn in and I loved the shade of brown they had come to take. He was on his way to meet up with a date. If his outfit isn't a display for casual and cool on a Sunday afternoon date...I don't know what is.

Name: Giordano Hardy
Occupation: Community Organizer in Alexandria
Aspirations: Right now...to be a dancer
"The scarf my brother got it when he went to France. He got it from a pashmina scarf vendor at Versailles...during study abroad. It's really pretty and I usually get a lot of compliments on it."
