Inspired By...NOMIA

NOMIA is the brainchild of NYC based fashion designer Yara Flinn. The brand has been around for five years and has attained a great deal of success. NOMIA embodies the laid-back, edgy yet classic New York girl that resides in all of us, regardless of our global location. In an interview with Garance, Yara described the NOMIA girl as:
"Confident in the sense that she doesn’t think too much about what she’s wearing but more about expressing herself. She has a mix of feminine and masculine, edgy but still classic at the same time."
I definitely see how the pieces exemplify Yara's description. My favorite pieces are the Asymmetrical Wrap Dress (first row, last column) and the Washed Silk Shirt-dress (second row, first column). I would have loved to buy the Silk Shirt-dress for my formal but it's only available in size six--two sizes too big. Maybe I should just wing it and use a belt to keep it chic?

Inspired By...Patrick Mohr x k1x

Source

This is for all of the sneaker fans out there. Patrick Mohr is a German designer, who collaborated  again with k1x, a basketball wear company, to make their latest sneaker collection, the mk3. The trademark wooden triangle can also be worn as a broach. The ankle straps add another cool dimension to the shoe. Other versions of the sneaker were the mk1, which came in black leather, and the mk2 came in nude.

Inspired By...Maki Oh S/S 2013

Source

Maki Oh is a clothing line by Nigerian-born designer Amaka Osakwe. Her work has profiled by the Huffington Post, NY Mag, and Fader--just to name her few. Her designs have appeared during New York Fashion Week.

Suggestion: Transition in Spring by mixing light and dark together. Pair airy and simple clothing with more structured pieces in your wardrobe to create a balance between playfulness of summer and the sober ambiance of winter.
